The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is an outward sign of the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. While Christ alone has redeemed us, the Blessed Virgin Mary has always been seen by Catholics as a loving mother and protector.

The Brown Scapular was first made known by Our Lady Herself, July 16th 1251, to St. Simon Stock, saying:
“Receive, my beloved son, this Scapular of thy Order; it is the special sign of my favor, which I have obtained for thee and for thy children of Mount Carmel. He who dies clothed with this habit shall be preserved from eternal fire. It is the badge of salvation, a shield in time of danger, and a pledge of special peace and protection.”

This a a sacramental that joins a bond with Our Holy Mother, though one must living in a state of grace (repentant) to receive full benefits.
There are many stories of supernatural protection when this garment is worn over the centuries.
